My Childe 04:22
My childe My childe I look everywhere For your traces In shrines of the air All your faces My childe My childe I wander the harem’s Lost flowers Your poison roses sweet Night shrouds us In the shadow of prayers In the shadow… My childe My childe My childe My childe In the shadow of prayers In the shadow… My childe My childe My childe

Ladies and girls Dreaming in bed As flowers die So shall you then She will help you Always help you When you call I’m dreaming, too Sweet gentle face White is the moon Fierce is her grace She will help you Always help you When you call When you call…

It Was Heavy 06:03
I climbed the holy mountain I prayed inside the cave I chanted with the children I tried to meditate It was heavy Oh so heavy That’s what I came here for That’s what I came here for I love the astral sunlight That shines upon your face I dig your golden figure So glad I found this place It was heavy Oh so heavy That’s what I came here for That’s what I came here for Our fire has burned to ashes Half wish that I could stay In time the dream’s forgotten But not your holy face It was heavy Oh so heavy

The Mountain 02:48
We climb to the top of the mountain (x2) The sun and the stars far below us (x2) We will climb so high Higher than the sky Higher than the sky Where the angels fly We climb to the top of the mountain (x2)

She’s got the feeling I used to know She’s got the look and The lights are go It’s her world inside Her lips glisten With gasoline She paints her eyes With tourmaline It’s her world inside Where we can hide Tonight she’s dancing To an ancient beat Bells ringing Upon her feet I’ve got to let her know Don’t ever let me go Her world inside Her world inside Her world inside

Super Venus 04:19
Last night three thirty-three The fire had died And yet there was heat Looked up into the sky Thus began the mystery Felt like something super Felt like Venus Now in the morning Visions I saw Can’t be what they seem That’s what they tell me Forget all the things That befell on me Kiss in full color A childish wrath in rhapsody I was to be her lover Until she escaped Through the melody Why did she let you go? Don’t ask me I don’t know Felt like something super Felt like something super Felt like something super Felt like Venus
7.
Arabella 04:52
Awoke with the evening Her smile was beside me Flowers aglow In the dying light The breeze blew through my hair Blue scent of ocean air Arabella We went flying into the night Felt all my chains falling Beneath the crystal moonlight My doom was sweetly calling Arabella When I saw her spinning round In the dust bare feet bleeding Grooving to that gipsy sound Giving me what I was needing She promised me everything She promised me everything Arabella Arabella Arabella

about

Having once again failed to secure a major recording contract for the Ninth Heaven, Enrique Abu embarked on a mission to Delphi, Greece, to consult its legendary oracle about the destiny of the band. Unaware there hadn't been a resident oracle for over two-thousand years, and finding Delphi itself in ruins, a despondent Abu headed for Crete to lick his wounds.

Here, unexpected inspiration came in the form of a gypsy dancing girl, whose companionship and cartomantic talents refreshed his spirit. It was also during his respite in Crete that Abu claimed to have had a vivid UFO encounter resulting in the funk-inspired Super Venus, which he insisted should silence all skeptics on the matter of other-worldly visitations. All this, according to the press release.

Contrasted with the rest of their politely analgesic discography, SHADOW OF PRAYERS is a bit of an outlier. Frothy with spidery guitar webs, ritual drums, space-groove bass, and spooky vocal contributions from the 'Lodge of the Akkadian Rose Choir' (whoever they are?), SoP plays like the torchlit travelogue of a narcotized New Age pilgrim. If that sounds like your bag, this one is a must listen. –Sr. Gustava, DOKTRINE #018, 1985)
